Led by Dave Martinez, the Los Angeles Kings downed the Portland Beavers, 7-1. Martinez hit 3 home runs, while adding 7 RBI and scoring three times for the Kings. Steve Wilkerson, the winner, improved to 9-7. He held Portland to 1 run on 4 hits over 6 innings, while racking up 9 strikeouts. Juan Valer earned the save for Los Angeles, his 1st.

Martinez had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a 0-1 curveball from Steve Thomas, he banged a grand slam home run to left, giving the Kings a 5-1 lead. It was the 17th home run of the year for Martinez.

"We did a lot of things right," said Martinez.
