The rain made it unbearable at times; nonetheless, the faithful who endured the elements enjoyed themselves.

The Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs withstood an impressive performance by East Haddam center fielder Dave Bland to defeat the Hyenas, 5-4, at Bulldogs Ballpark. Bland was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. Eric Barone finished to wrap up his 24th save.

The Hyenas had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Blueberry Bulldogs going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the two-time All-Star Hugo Cabrera came to the plate. Cabrera hit a 2-run double on a full count fastball from East Haddam hurler Chris Newell. It was Cabrera's 31st double of the year.

Sudbury manager Coach John attributed the win to "a little bit of this and a little bit of that."

The second-place Blueberry Bulldogs now sit at 61-60.
