Memphis starter Alex Watkins pitched well against the St. Louis Archies at Russwood Park. The right-hander led his team to a win, 3-1. In 7.1 innings, Watkins surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 10 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. With the win, the Chicks improved to 57-62.

The Archies had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Chicks going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the four-time All-Star Setsujiro Takahashi came to the plate. Takahashi hit a run-scoring double on a 2-2 sinker from St. Louis hurler Nate Edmondson. It was Takahashi's 24th double of the year.

"All in all, I thought Alex pitched a fine game for us tonight," said Memphis manager Aaron Lazier.
