The East Haddam Hyenas picked up a win at Ballpark of East Haddam, knocking off the Portland Beavers, 5-1. Starting pitcher Edgar Hernandez played a key role in the triumph. The winner was Hernandez. He threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball. The loser was Jason Scothorn.

Mike Sizemore had a big 2-run home run for the Hyenas in the bottom of the fourth inning. With East Haddam leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a sinker from Jason Scothorn, who leads the AL in complete games with 4, and punished it. The result was his 17th home run of the season, which put the Hyenas on top, 3-0.

"It was just a matter of executing," said East Haddam manager Joe Jankowski.

East Haddam is now 49-66, while Portland is 61-51.
