Archies Come Back Late to Top Desert Storm, 8-6
|
Brian Cifelli powered the St. Louis Archies to a win over the Arizona Desert Storm. The final score was 8-6. The St. Louis first baseman, who finished 5th in the FL in wins above replacement with 5.0 in 2049, was a force to be reckoned with. He banged out 2 extra-base hits, including 1 home run and 1 double. St. Louis reliever Dave Nevarez picked up the win, raising his record to 4-0. Evan King was tagged with the loss. Alex Garcia nailed down his 3rd save.
Had Jim Stanton not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Stanton hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Archies.
"I like our moxie," said Archies manager Terry Schneekloth.
