The Detroit Pizzas did just enough to nip the Kyiv Cossacks, 4-3, in 10 innings. Detroit pitcher Chad Edwards, in particular, had a standout performance. Detroit reliever Vance Niec picked up the win to move to 4-2. Jimmy Gold suffered the loss. George Liston got the save, his 16th in 21 chances.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Jason Irish? The 26-year old third baseman Irish stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put Detroit up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Felt great, felt really good," said Edwards.
With the win, Detroit upped its record to 61-51.
