With first baseman Cesar Lopez leading the charge, the Havana Sugar Kings defeated the Memphis Chicks, 5-4, at Russwood Park. Lopez, who finished 2nd in the AL in runs with 117 in 2046, was 1-2 with a double and 3 walks. He scored 2 runs. John Charles earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 6-3. Havana, at 63-50, is 2 games up in the Alliance League Boneheads Division.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Jay Wesner? The 25-year old left fielder Wesner stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put Havana up, 5-4. For the game, he was 3 for 6, including 2 doubles and 1 single.
