Buffalo Defeats New York, 5-2
|
Starting pitcher Steve Gorter held up his part of the bargain, helping the Buffalo Buffalo stymie the New York Empire, 5-2. The winning pitcher was Gorter, now 12-8. He tossed 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 10. Buffalo's record now stands at 64-47, placing them first in the Alliance League Dimwits Division.
Buffalo used a timely hit from Jeremy Whitby to get the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Buffalo ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"We're one win closer to our goal," Gorter said in postgame remarks.
