Cossacks Rally to Win, 8-7
|
The Kyiv Cossacks picked up a win at Kyiv Grounds, taking down the Arizona Desert Storm, 8-7, in 11 innings. On the mound for Kyiv was right-hander Vince Collins. He played a central role in the triumph. Jimmy Gold, credited with the win in relief, is now 7-5. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Kyiv, at 52-57, sits in third place in the Federation League Knuckleheads Division.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 11th, 28-year old first baseman Antonio Suarez had a chance to be the hero. Arizona pitcher Esteban Vega wanted to foil that plan. But with two outs, Suarez drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Cossacks had themselves a thrilling win.
"Our guys just had that look of determination," said winning manager Boris Lahutin.
