Archies Throttled by Beavers, 4-1
|
Portland starter Victor Velasco put a stranglehold on the St. Louis offense. The left-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Beavers to a 4-1 win. At 58-47, the Beavers find themselves in first place in the Alliance League Dimwits Division.
The Archies had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Beavers going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old left fielder Luke Spradley came to the plate. Spradley hit a solo home run on a 1-1 changeup from St. Louis hurler Jim Harrington. It was Spradley's 24th home run of the year.
"It's a mindset," said Velasco. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."
