Pizzas Earn 5-3 Home Win
|
The Portland Beavers got a superb performance from second baseman Oscar Hernandez, but the Detroit Pizzas still won the game, 5-3. Hernandez was 3-5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The save was credited to Bill Arellano, his 1st. The Pizzas saw their win-loss record go to 52-53. At the same time, the Beavers fell to 45-60.
The Pizzas got a big hit from left fielder Bob Estrada. In the bottom of the sixth, Estrada smacked a 3-run home run off Portland pitcher Ray Barber. It was his 7th home run of the season. Suddenly, the Pizzas were ahead, 5-3.
Detroit manager Evan Compton commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
