The Arizona Desert Storm finished off the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs, 5-3. Much of the credit belonged to third baseman Joe Gainey. Gainey was 1-3 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Desert Storm. The second-place Desert Storm lifted their record to 54-50.

Gainey had a timely hit for Arizona in the bottom of the seventh. With Arizona trailing 2-1, he turned a 2-1 fastball into a grand slam home run. It was his 10th home run of the season, making it 5-2, Arizona.

"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Gainey told the Arizona Observer. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
