92's Lose By a Run at New York, 6-5
The New York Empire did just enough to sneak past the Saskatchewan 92's, 6-5, at New York Grounds. New York pitcher Melvin Verdin, in particular, had a standout performance. Reliever Jerry Matthews picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. David Moses took the loss. Alfredo Galhardo got the save, the 1st for him this season.

Chris Murphy went 1-3 for New York. The 29-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With no one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off David Moses. It was his 1st RBI of the season.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Verdin said after the game.

At 3-1, the Empire have played well so far.
