Yellowstone Sent Home with 3-1 Loss
|
Steve Ashcraft, who leads the FL in innings pitched with 60.2, never let the Super Volcano get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his cutter, to pitch the Hyenas to a win, 3-1. Ashcraft yielded no runs over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 10. His record improves to 5-1. Chris Newell earned the save for East Haddam, his 4th.
Ben Dean had a big 2-run double for the Hyenas in the bottom of the fourth inning. With East Haddam leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a changeup from Justin Kowalick, who finished 5th in the AL in innings pitched with 228.2 in 2047, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Hyenas ahead, 3-0.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said East Haddam skipper Joe Jankowski.
The win gives East Haddam a season record of 18-17.
