Pittsburgh Yinzers starter Melvin Verdin pitched a strong game against the Kyiv Cossacks at Kyiv Grounds, leading the Yinzers to victory, 5-2. Andy Buhrke, who finished 3rd in the AL in saves with 35 in 2043, earned the save for Pittsburgh. With the win over Kyiv, the Yinzers improved to 15-18.

Pittsburgh used a well-timed hit by Oscar Hernandez to capture the win. The second baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Yinzers ahead, 4-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"Very good win for our guys," said Hernandez.
