Archies Pull Out Late Win, 3-2
|
The St. Louis Archies earned a close win over the Los Angeles Kings, thanks in part to Spencer Hay. The St. Louis right-hander, who leads the FL in complete games with 2, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Hay yielded 2 runs over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 8. His record improves to 8-8. The last-place Archies have a record of 44-58.
Setsujiro Takahashi, who led the AL in hits with 234 in 2043, took Los Angeles hurler Omari Johnson deep in the bottom of the eighth. His 2-run home run put the Archies on top, 3-2. In all, Takahashi had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said St. Louis skipper Terry Schneekloth. "I can't complain."
