Hyenas Win at Dublin, 7-2
|
Chris Newell, who is on pace for 216 strikeouts this season, had a strong outing for the East Haddam Hyenas against the Dublin Porters at Porters Ballpark. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 7-2 win. The winner was Newell. He threw 6.2 innings allowing 1 run. The loser was Jim Steeb. The defeat makes Dublin 50-51.
East Haddam used the timely hitting of Bobby Martens to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Hyenas ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"I pretty much put my pitches where I wanted to," said Newell.
