Sportsman's Park hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
Portland pitcher Ray Barber had a large part in his team subduing the Los Angeles Kings, 2-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the left-hander. Getting the save was Tony Orellana, his 22nd.
Portland used the timely hitting of David Terkeurst to seize the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Beavers on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Barber called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
The last-place Kings now sit at 44-56.
