The Kyiv Cossacks used the hitting of shortstop Steve Buffington to subdue the Havana Sugar Kings, 8-6, in 10 innings. For the game, Buffington was 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Kyiv reliever Casey Burgess picked up the win. Kurat Feyzioglu, who is a two-time All-Star, took the loss for Havana. Today's win puts Kyiv at 45-54, while Havana falls to 48-50.
The game was all tied up in the top of the tenth, until Buffington delivered big-time for Kyiv, stroking a dramatic 3-run home run off John Charles. The game-changing hit put the Cossacks on top, 8-5.
"It feels good, just a great win all around," Buffington said after the game.
