Pizzas Win, 4-2, Versus Sudbury
|
The Detroit Pizzas topped the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs, 4-2, in Alliance League action at Pizzas Ballpark. The standout performance belonged to Detroit pitcher and Stratford, Connecticut, native Jim Edmons. George Liston, who is tied for 7th in the AL in saves with 17, earned the save for Detroit. Detroit, at 58-35, is 5½ games up in the Alliance League Boneheads Division.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Chris Adams came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Sudbury pitcher Nate Yarbrough, he hit a 2-1 changeup for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Detroit on top, 4-2.
"The vibe's good," said Detroit manager Evan Compton. "We've got to keep it going."
