Kyiv Cossacks pitcher Juan Valer was in fine form, leading his team past the Havana Sugar Kings, 5-1. Kurat Feyzioglu earned the save for Kyiv, his 22nd of the year. Kyiv improves to 49-42 with the win. They lead their division by 2 games.

The Sugar Kings had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Cossacks going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old left fielder Andy Lester came to the plate. Lester hit a 3-run home run on a 2-0 cutter from Havana hurler Eric McKinney. It was Lester's 3rd home run of the year.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Kyiv manager Salvador Rubio.
