Gutierrez Helps Pittsburgh Cruise to 12-3 Win
Spirited fans greeted the San Antonio Aztecs for their clash with the Pittsburgh Yinzers.

The Pittsburgh Yinzers clobbered the San Antonio Aztecs, 12-3, at Estadio Azteca. Pittsburgh first baseman Danny Gutierrez led the onslaught. He was 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. Melvin Verdin earned the win for Pittsburgh. He lasted 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 13 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 6-3.

With Pittsburgh leading 2-1 in the top of the second, Gutierrez hit a 2-run single off San Antonio hurler Justin Kowalick. It was the 93rd hit of the season for Gutierrez and put his team ahead, 4-1.

"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Gutierrez. "You've got to get results."

The first-place Yinzers, at 50-40, now lead their division by 7½ games.
