Beavers Suffer 6-2 Home Defeat
|
Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Portland Beavers take on the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs.
Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs starter Matt Wesberry kept the Portland Beavers hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 6-2 win. Wesberry got the win, improving to 5-2. He gave up 4 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. He allowed 2 runs.
Sudbury used the clutch hitting of Tom Stanley to snag the win. The designated hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Blueberry Bulldogs ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"I felt good up there," said Stanley. "I saw the ball well."
The win lifted the Sudbury record to 50-41.
