Fans witnessed a whale of a game between the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs and Kyiv Cossacks.
The Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Kyiv designated hitter Andy Lester by beating the Cossacks, 4-3, at Kyiv Grounds. Lester went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The slumping Cossacks have lost 8 straight.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Michel Carvalho came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Kyiv pitcher Jimmy Gold, he hit a 1-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Sudbury on top, 4-3.
"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Blueberry Bulldogs manager Coach John.
