Portland Topples Kyiv, 3-2
|
Starting pitcher Victor Velasco gave the Portland Beavers a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Kyiv Cossacks, 3-2, at Beavers Park. Rodolfo Merlos earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. He upped his record to 2-0. The win puts Portland at 15-12.
Portland took a 3-2 lead on Sergio Garced's 3rd double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Garced hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Kyiv pitcher Gabriel Fragoso shaking his head.
Velasco attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
