Blueberry Bulldogs Get Clutch Win, 3-2
|
The Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs took Waikiki pitcher Chris Wilkoff's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Ballpark of Honolulu. The final score had Sudbury getting past the Wayfinders, 3-2. Wilkoff went 5.1 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 8. Sudbury reliever Dave Nevarez picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Bobby Avery absorbed the loss. Justin Roeber finished to wrap up his 9th save.
The result might have been different, had it not been for three-time All-Star Hugo Cabrera. Cabrera had a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Blueberry Bulldogs ahead, 3-2. For the game, Cabrera had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Things will change for us," said Waikiki manager GM Yokotuna. "When things change, we'll get clicking."
With the win, Sudbury climbs to 15-10.
