The Kyiv Cossacks got a good effort from starter Billy Roland in defeating the East Haddam Hyenas at Ballpark of East Haddam. The final score was 5-2. Roland, now 3-0, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. At 18-5, the 2052 Cossacks have been excellent so far.
The Cossacks got a big at-bat from third baseman Jeremy Gillespie. For the game, Gillespie went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. In the top of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Kyiv a 2-0 lead.
"This team is on a mission," said Gillespie, who is one of the clubhouse leaders. "I like our focus."
