The San Jose Sabercats were almost helpless in their 4-0 loss to the Galway Gales and hurler John Griese. Griese kept the Sabercats confused all game, spinning a 2-hit shutout.

"Tip your hat to Griese," San Jose manager Mike De Bono said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."

The 37-year-old right-hander had 3 walks and 7 strikeouts in a strong performance.

"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Griese said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."

In 10 starts this season, Griese has chalked up a 6-2 record and a 2.86 ERA.
