The 2050 season did not get off to quite the start the Dublin Porters had hoped, with an opening day loss to the Kyiv Cossacks at Porters Ballpark. The final score was 7-6. First Baseman Chris Nicotra was the top performer for Kyiv. Kyiv pitcher Kurat Feyzioglu earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Evan King suffered the loss.

Nicotra had a game-changing home run in the top of the 11th. On a 0-1 cutter from Evan King, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Cossacks a 7-6 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Nicotra.

"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Nicotra. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
